4 Things you should know about being a yoga teacher.
Are you considering becoming a yoga teacher?
Not sure if you fit ‘the mold’?
Here are 4 things you should know:
You don’t need to be a ‘super asana, stand on your head’ yoga performer.
Many people are afraid tp start teaching because they think that their personal practice isn’t good enough, or they think that they first have to master each and every yoga pose. But, as you may have already discovered, yoga is about so much more than performing asana, Yoga is about learning to be your best and most authentic self, using asana as the tool to access your body, breath, and mind. We all have different body shapes and different levels of flexibility, strength, and balance. A great yoga teacher is someone who understands this and confidently holds space for students of all shapes and sizes, irrespective of their physical practice.
Be truthful and credible.
You cannot teach anyone if they do not trust you. Building your student’s trust is vital from their very first class with you. From day one, show up and acknowledge & see your students, as each student will be watching you as you authentically share your knowledge, stick to your word, and hold yourself accountable to the teachings of yoga.
Teaching and practicing are not the same.
It doesn’t matter how advanced your personal practice is, this does not create a great yoga teacher. A good yoga teaching training course will teach you the cues and skills needed to masterfully guide your students through poses as well as train you to mindfully observe your students, identify proper alignment, and to effectively offer verbal and physical adjustments.
You do not need to be a spiritual guru.
As a yoga teacher, you do not need to be highly evolved or spiritual. As you embark on your teaching journey, your skills and the spiritual aspects will grow with you and evolve over time.
